Tim Burton’s Spin on a Classic

With Walt Disney’s magic and Tim Burton’s imagination, there is no question as to why the team chose a timeless classic. Tim Burton's new film of Alice in Wonderland will be released March 5, 2010 to audiences everywhere. In the new trailer of Alice in Wonderland, as seen below, the Mad Hatter says “some say in order to survive it, you need to be mad as a hatter” is from the recent trailer of the upcoming Alice in Wonderland film. You would have to be mad as a hatter not to be faintly interested in the movie! Using the original 1865 story, Burton uses his own magic to add a new twist to the film. Matt McDaniel states “it's a new story that has Alice returning to Wonderland as a teenager several years after the events of Carroll's books Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass” (2009). There is a combination of classic characters with Tim Burton’s imagination.

Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland Trailer

Johnny Depp Can Wear a Hat

The trailer portrays the Mad Hatter as one of the primary characters. Johnny Depp brings light to this main character in the new movie. If you have ever seen a movie with Johnny Depp, then you know you will not be disappointed becaue I sure won't be. In a variety of written adaptations of Alice in Wonderland, the Mad Hatter is a minor character. His big introduction is the mad tea party he hosts for Alice. Audiences everywhere will fall in love with the new version of the Mad Hatter or at least I will being he is my favorite character. In the movie, by the look of the trailer, Burton uses the eccentric personality of Depp and the brief description of the Mad Hatter from the story. “The look in the movie is a variation on the book's illustrations by John Tenniel, with his wild hair, oversized bowtie, and "10/6" label pinned to his giant hat” (McDaniel, 2009). Between the makeup, the storyline, and Depp himself, I cannot wait.

Computers in Wonderland

The characters may appear different than the adaptations throughout the years but that’s the point. Burton wanted to create a world full of color and vivid images like Carroll wrote about in the original story of Alice in Wonderland. The only way to do so would be to rely on the real world's technologies to travel through Wonderland. Wonderland contains many peculiar characters, each distinct in their own way but create this extraordinary world need more than imagination. The new movie coming to theatres relies heavily on the use of computers. “The film will digitally manipulate footage of real actors to create Wonderland's bizarre inhabitants” (McDaniel, 2009). Using the talent of well known actors and animators, this movie rendition is going to be

something spectacular in my opinion.

I Want it Now!

I am personally anticipating the movie of Alice in Wonderland for a few reasons. The first reason is because I am a huge Disney fan. I am the person who is constantly looking up fun Disney facts or planning the next trip to the most “magically place on Earth.” The second reason is because I love when Johnny Depp and Tim Burton team up. Each movie this duo works on together comes out a masterpiece. No two movies Burton creates are ever the same. There is always something new, whether it is the chemistry between the actors, the storyline, or the quality of the film. In Burton’swords “it always keeps it fresh and all” (McDaniel 2009). The final reason is because I want to see the new movie of Alice in Wonderland being it is one of my favorite stories. I always wonder what if Alice went back to Wonderland what would actually happen. If she went back to Wonderland, would she want to go home the next time? I use to imagine this storyline though it always had different outcomes in my mind because I never knew myself. The one thing I am positive is I do not want to be “late for this important date” when the movie finally arrives in theatres.
